The project entitled ‘Network for Education and Empowerment of Rural Artisans’ is being implemented by CSR with the financial and technical support of PWDS, Marthandam.  The target group consists of marginalized women and Palmyra tapers from Tiruchendur, Udangudi and Alwarthirunagari blocks of Tuticorin District.

The objective of the project is to strengthen the socio-economic and educational status of the weaker sections and to empower women and pave way for the holistic and sustainable development of rural people.

60 members participated in Business coaching training, 60 members participated in leadership training, 1050 members participated in health awareness training and 50 members participated in PTA strengthening. This has empowered members to avail various government welfare schemes through linkages with rural departments and panchayat raj institutions. During this year, 69 SHG members received various government welfare schemes like marriage assistance, free housing, land patta, maternal assistance, free gas, old age pension and street light worth Rs.19, 85,000
   
  A few tangible changes observed were:

Developed IGP, banking, communication and managerial skills

Representation in solving local issues on their own through collective efforts

Have high level of acceptance by the community and government departments

Established an identity in their communities.
 
CSR promoted Sangamam Federation in 2004, which runs a Super Market and is functioning in its own building. During the period 2008 – 2009, the total turnover of Sangamam Super Market was Rs.24, 92,873/-. Their asset value is Rs.45, 25,000/-.
